9 Smart Ways To Save On Baby Stuff

by Ivy B

Fantastic tips to help you save on baby stuff.  Shopping for baby supplies can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to break the bank!

It’s no secret that babies are expensive.  In fact, the cost of raising a baby in the first year is roughly $12,000.

All typical and necessary baby items that manufacturers and retailers KNOW are must haves, you’re likely to pay a good deal for.  And, if you want some extraneous items that aren’t necessary?  Well, you can bet you’re coughing up good money.

Then, if you want higher quality items in hopes of having them last through more than one kid, you’ll be spending quite a bit more.  At least, initially.

Couponing at your local retailers can often provide some really good deals, but it’s simply not enough!

I’ve found the following really helpful ways to cut costs when it comes to baby stuff.  So, I wanted to share how I save on baby stuff but never did without.

9 Ways to Save on Baby Stuff

1. Ebay

Since our first little booger turned out to be dairy and soy sensitive, we had to switch from nursing to [easyazon_link keywords=”hypoallergenic formula” cloak=”n” locale=”US” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”ivsvabasaan0a-20″]hypoallergenic formula[/easyazon_link].

If you think regular formula is expensive, check out the hypoallergenic formulas.  You’ll find that you can’t go and get store brands, big tubs aren’t offered, and some of the sales don’t apply to hypoallergenic formulas.

So, we had to get creative to find our best deals on formula.  At the time, our best deals were found on EBAY where we bought unexpired Nutramigen for $1.06 per oz.

2. Amazon Family

If you want the convenience of diapers delivered, check out Amazon Family where you’ll save 20% on diaper subscriptions.  Start a subscription after you know what diaper works best for your baby thought.  The deals here are normally on the huge boxes.

In addition to the diaper subscription discount, you’ll receive:

*Exclusive Coupons and Deals from Amazon Family

*Exclusive Baby Registry benefits

*FREE Two-Day Shipping on millions of items

*Unlimited instant streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows

*Unlimited, ad-free streaming of over a million songs and more Prime benefits

3. Amazon Warehouse Deals

I have been really pleased with Warehouse Deals @ Amazon where I bought a huge box of Luvs size 2 diapers at $0.13/diaper back in the day.  It still qualified for Prime shipping, so it was free 2 day shipping as a Prime Member.

My understanding of these Warehouse deals is that you buy items here that may have boxes that have been messed up somehow, but the items themselves weren’t damaged.

Amazon Warehouse isn’t just for baby products, either!

4. Baby Registry

Aside from receiving necessary items on your baby registry at a baby shower (which is a huge way to save on baby stuff), there’s added bonus to having a baby registry (or a few).

Most retailers offer registry completion discounts that are very enticing and help parents-to-be save money on baby stuff before baby even arrives.

Here are the benefits of an Amazon Baby Registry:

* 10% completion discount; 15% completion discount for Amazon Mom members.

* FREE 90-day returns on Baby Store purchases.

* It’s universal – add items to an Amazon Baby Registry from any site.

To help you further save money on baby stuff with a registry, be sure to price compare!  By putting items on registries from stores that offer the lowest price of the same item, you’re saving your gift givers money.  Then, when it comes to using your completion discounts, you can stack the completion discount on top of the already low priced item!

5. Get Hand-Me-Downs

Baby clothes costs can feel like a lose-lose.

For one thing, baby clothes can be expensive.  And yet, you’re lucky if your baby wears a newborn size for longer than a week.

Before you know it, your little one grows out of whatever size they’re in and probably wore about half what you bought.  So, don’t be ashamed to take hand-me-downs from anyone who wants to pass them on.

This was one of my absolute favorite ways to save on baby stuff.  Plus, I was able to pass the savings on to others when my babies were done with their hand-me-downs.

6. Opt for Convertible Gear

Save on baby stuff by choosing convertible baby items like a [easyazon_link keywords=”2 in 1 crib” cloak=”n” locale=”US” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”ivsvabasaan0a-20″]2 in 1 crib[/easyazon_link] (crib to toddler bed) or [easyazon_link keywords=”3 in 1 crib” cloak=”n” locale=”US” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”ivsvabasaan0a-20″]3 in 1 crib[/easyazon_link] (crib, toddler bed, and full size bed).

You can even opt for things like a [easyazon_link keywords=”convertible high chair” cloak=”n” locale=”US” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”ivsvabasaan0a-20″]convertible high chair[/easyazon_link] or [easyazon_link keywords=”convertible car seat” cloak=”n” locale=”US” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”ivsvabasaan0a-20″]convertible car seat[/easyazon_link] to stretch your baby gear dollars a little further.

7. Request Samples

You can request samples of things like formula (if you’re not planning on breastfeeding) at the hospital when you give birth.  Or request samples at the Pediatrician’s office.

Most times you’ll find samples aren’t given to you without asking, so don’t be shy!

8. Share supplies!

It’s not uncommon to feel the urge to buy special baby laundry detergent for sensitive baby skin.  And, when you do this, you essentially are opting for more time spent doing laundry.  And, an extra load can cost you more in electricity and water.

Instead, opt for dye-free and scent-free versions of things like laundry soap ([easyazon_link identifier=”B002R1W6IE” locale=”US” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”ivsvabasaan0a-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]we’ve always used this one[/easyazon_link]) and body washes that the whole family can use.

9. Opt for Reusable

If you’re planning on having more children, opt for things you can reuse.  Many moms are choosing to cloth diaper for various reasons.  And, while cloth diapers can be a huge up-front expense, if you plan on having more children, they can easily be passed down, which will save a ton over the years versus disposable diapers.

And, boy do babies go through some diapers!

Reusing things isn’t just about diapers though.  Hold on to things like clothes, pack and plays, strollers, and high chairs.
