How I Get My Kids to Eat Their Food, at least sometimes

This is a parenting sanity saver for the mom who is tired of her kids not eating.  What to love (and maybe not) about FunBites food cutters for kids.

Over the holidays, I ran a Holiday Gift Guide for Toddlers.  As part of the guide, I partnered with a few brands to share some amazing toddler products in exchange for a few of them.  One of the items we received (and gave away) were the FunBites food cutters for kids.  I held off on giving the kids their FunBites until Christmas and we’ve used them a few times since.  I wanted to share our experience after using them to help you decide if FunBites is something your family would love, too.

Now, in our house, we have a tradition of allowing the kids to open a present from each other.  It was a tradition my parents started when I was a kid.  My brother and I would get to open our presents to each other on Christmas Eve.  I’ve always loved that memory and we decided to extend it to our children.

I decided that the kids would give each other their FunBites on Christmas Eve.  My daughter was so eager to open her present that she ripped through it.  Unfortunately she wasn’t nearly as pleased with the FunBites as I would have thought.  And my two year old just didn’t care.

I was worried they wouldn’t like them, and I was extremely excited about making food cutting easier.  Plus, I was desperate to get my picky eater to start eating better.  My heart sank.

But, a few days later, out of the blue, my daughter requested her sandwich be cut with her FunBites food cutter!  I jumped at the opportunity and made sure to cut my son’s lunch too!

What I didn’t like about FunBites Food Cutters for Kids

Let’s cut to the chase and discuss the one thing I didn’t care for about FunBites food cutters.

When cutting a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, FunBites sort of mashed and tore the top layer of bread during the cut.  At first, I thought the whole sandwich was going to rip to shreds.  Thankfully the sandwich stayed together and didn’t gush all over the place.

Honestly though, that’s about the only thing I can complain about.  I mean, the cutter doesn’t cover the entire piece of bread, but you just cut the rest of the sandwich to reduce waste.

What We Loved about FunBites Food Cutters for Kids

Although there was the one thing I didn’t like, there’s so much more to love about FunBites.

The way FunBites is made, when you cut through the sandwich, you can gently rock the cutter side to side to complete the cut easily.  The bottom layer of the sandwich is in nearly perfect condition making sharp and recognizable shapes.

My 6 year old daughter loved her bite-sized sandwich, smiling and talking about the shapes on her plate.  For not being excited about receiving her FunBites originally, she ended up really enjoying her cut sandwich.

My 2 year old son actually ate about half his sandwich, which is pretty rare these days since he’s hit the picky eating phase.  Additionally, the small pieces seemed to make him disinterested in opening up his sandwich and getting the filling all over the place.

Finally, I found this to be a great tool to help me talk to my kids about shapes.

Plus, it made it easier to get creative with their lunches instead of handing them another boring square, triangle, or rectangle cut sandwich.  Apparently, intricate shaped food is much more edible.

Other Notes about FunBites

I’ve heard some people complain about having difficulty cleaning their food cutters.
