Hey Baby! An Adorable and Informative Book About Baby Animals

by Ivy B

Hey, Baby! from National Geographic Kids is an adorable and informative book about baby animals.  It offers beautiful imagery, poems, and short stories to hold the interest of even tiny readers.

I remember when S was small and I began doing home preschool work with her to keep her big brain growing and active.  We’d visit the library once a week to pick new books and return the ones from the previous week.  Our children’s department librarian told me to incorporate small non-fiction books with real pictures into our mix.  At the time, I hadn’t realized how much of a difference this would make in our lives.

She’s always caught onto subjects easily.  I’m grateful for it, too.  But the addition of these realistic books helped me to show her that she was learning about real subjects.  And honestly, it was a nice change of pace from reading fiction and silly stories all the time.

Now, B is getting to the age where I need to start thinking about incorporating some home preschool into our day.  And this time, I’m armed with the information to start our educational journey early with these non-fiction books too!  That’s why I’m excited to have received Hey, Baby!: A Collection of Pictures, Poems, and Stories from Nature’s Nursery in partnership with Moms Meet.  This is another adorable and informative book about baby animals from National Geographic Kids.

Why We Love This Adorable and Informative Book About Baby Animals

There are 3 things we need to keep a kid’s attention (especially toddlers):

Great pictures

Short text

Fun

Hey, Baby! delivers exactly what I need to interest my kids in educational material, without bogging them down.  I don’t believe I ended up with a 1st grader who reads at nearly a 3rd grade level by accident.  We always made reading fun, even if it was educational in nature.

That’s what I love about this new National Geographic Kids book!

Sure, this book includes facts.  Yes, my kids are learning something.  But NO, it isn’t boring!

The imagery is exactly what you’d expect of any National Geographic book … beautiful, life-like, and immersive.  If you’re anything like me, you (and the kids) will be ooh-ing and ahhh-ing over all the adorable babies.  I know I caught myself saying “I want a {insert adorable deadly animal name here}.”  The beautiful and sometimes playful pictures of penguins, koala, tigers, cheetahs, bears, and more were enough to make me want nearly every single animal baby in the world.

The stories and poems are short enough that you’re almost certain to be able to read about at least one animal baby to even the tiniest listener without losing them.  Even the fact boxes are ridiculously short, delivering the baby name, where it grows up, and what they snack on.

Finally, FUN!  The pictures are so engaging that I promise you and the kids will be wishing you had just about every animal in the book.  Everyone looks so cuddly and fun, you just won’t be able to help yourself.  Well … aside from the snakes and lizards.  Those won’t ever get me oooh-ing …. more like ewwww-ing.  Still, because the images are so engaging and the stories, poems, or facts or so short, everyone can have fun learning tidbits of information.

I never know what is going to excite my kids, but we always seem to be intrigued with baby animals.  Reading beautiful non-fiction, such as this adorable and informative book about baby animals really is one of my favorite ways to teach my kids.  The facts about baby animals around the world helps me introduce new vocabulary, geography, and animals to my children’s memory banks.  And I’m, of course, excited to read along with them.

My kids are BIG into non-fiction. They devour our children’s encyclopedias. This would be a great gift for them this year.
