3 Simple Tips to Save Money on Back to School Essentials

by Ivy B

This month, I’ve been tackling the back to school lunch discussion.  Early?  Sure.  We’re halfway through summer vacation already.  I’m getting my brain in gear for all things back to school.

Over the last 2 years, I’ve learned out to efficiently pack school lunches for my daughter and beat the school morning rush.  I’m one who loves to be prepared and ahead of the game, though admittedly, it’s not been so easy once we had a second baby.  So, I’m behind the curve on learning how to save money on back to school.

This year though, I had my strategy down a little better.  And, as I find typical, the more I can plan ahead, the easier it is to save money.  This is how I plan to save money on back to school essentials this year.

3 Simple Ways to Save Money on Back to School Essentials

Plan ahead

I have a list of items I know I want for my daughter this year.  And, I had her pick out a backpack online after I researched the one I thought would be the best.  If you have your list of school supplies, keep it with your list of personal essentials.

I have our school supply list pinned to a written list of things I need to purchase to get ready for the new school year.  I wanted to add a thermal lunchbox capable of packing hot lunches, but most importantly, my daughter needed a new backpack designed to last.

Planning ahead and knowing what we need is essential in helping me save money on back to school essentials. This is our back to school supply list | www.sahmplus.com

Buy when there’s a sale

I keep our Amazon Wishlists up to date and I sign up for my favorite retailers’ emails.  It’s important to be notified when there’s a sale so I can snag the back to school essentials when they go on sale.  But don’t forget the Groupon Coupons, in case you can stack a coupon on sales, too.

Other places Groupon Coupons are helping me save money on back to school essentials

I already told you I’m saving money at L.L. Bean on my daughter’s new backpack.  But, all of our back to school shopping will be spread out amongst various stores, because that’s how I find some of the best savings.

I’m using Groupon coupons at Target, Amazon, and JC Penney to name a few.

I had no idea you could get Groupons for those stores – thanks for the share! I recently noticed a push notification from Amazon on something I bought in the past being heavily marked down temporarily. I really liked knowing that.

I’m still trying to get acquainted, and the way you explain it seems so doable and less overwhelming. Do you recommend any sort of routine maintenance and un-pinning, or do you think being selective and organized from the get-go is sufficient?
