Home Mom Life My Transition From SAHM to WAHM

My Transition From SAHM to WAHM

by Ivy B

It wasn’t the plan, to go from SAHM to WAHM just yet. In fact, this was 2 years before I’d intended to go back to work. But, when opportunity knocks…

I stumbled into a work from home position.

Unlike many people, I wasn’t ready to go back to work. I’d been a stay at home mom almost 8 years and was looking forward to another 2 years until my son started Kindergarten.

Even then, I had almost no aspiration to do more than work as a part-time employee. I wanted very little responsibility and didn’t want to give up the ability to take care of the kids whenever they needed or go on field trips, volunteer at school, etc.

Although, I would continually say I did want certain things out of my future job.

  1. Must be part-time

2. Preferred a work from home job doing social media.

3. BONUS – work in motorsports (and the dream would be for Porsche).

We all know how life works. Our plans are rarely what life holds for us. We must adapt and move forward, right?

How I Went From SAHM to WAHM

The position of a lifetime became a reality 2 years before I planned to return to the workforce. It checked off all three boxes. It was part-time (hours were up to me), doing social media from home, and I would be working for a local race track I was already visiting regularly.

No epic bonus with Porsche, but pretty darned close to my dream job.

Opportunity was knocking and I could either decline because I hadn’t planned it or I could answer the door early.

Despite my plans, I knew life was telling me now was the time for me to enter the workforce.

I answered the door knowing the chances of finding a part-time time job with the specifications I hoped for might be hard later down the line. Not to mention, landing a job like that after being out of the workforce for 10 years could prove difficult.

It came down to … take it now and be ahead of my 2 year game plan OR decline and kick myself if I couldn’t find an opportunity like this 2 years down the line.

Truth be told, I could have waited, but would I have been happy if I had to take a part-time job in retail? Probably not.

So, in the blink of an eye, I went from SAHM to WAHM.

As you can imagine, I’m swamped being stay at home mom that has to transition to work at home mom a couple times a day.

There’s very little time left over for self-care, much less writing on the blog. But, I wanted to take a few minutes to share this new chapter of my life with you.

When I finally get my schedules and routines down pat, I’m sure I’ll find more time to update the blog. When I do, I can’t wait to share how I transitioned from SAHM to WAHM, my organizational tips, and more.

How I went from SAHM to WAHM in the blink of an eye ... unexpectedly.

This is what SAHM, plus … was created for: a place for me to write about stay at home mom life and to grow it to be whatever life grew for me. I can share my life as a stay at home mom who now also works from home. And, who knows what the future holds from here.

I hope you continue to follow me and find value in what I have shared and will continue to share going forward.

Spread the love
