Toddler Bathtime Can Be Productive Parent Time

by Ivy B

So, you’ve filled up the tub for the tot and you know you’re going to be in the bathroom for a while.  Nothing is worse than feeling stuck when you have so much to do.

If you’d like to get more done, make the most of your toddler’s “bath” time with these ideas.  Please note that I’m comfortable with these suggestions as my daughter is completely comfortable playing with her toys with little engagement.  And, I’m right by the tub if she wants to include me in play or needs me.

Read a book.  A book you want to read aloud or silently, depending on your toddler’s need for attention.  I get a good amount of my personal reading done while baby girl is playing with her bath toys.
Clean the bathroom.  Assuming you can open a window or use cleaning agents that aren’t harmful to smell, this is a great way to start cleaning the bathroom.  You can carry on a conversation and prompt activities with the little one at the same time.
Write your emails (or blog posts, as is the case for this post).  Assuming you have a phone or tablet, you can get caught up on your emails or social networks for a few minutes.  You’re right there and you can break away at any moment.

Play Games or Sing Songs.  If you’re looking to get a few minutes of uninterrupted educational time, play some games or sing some songs to make the time pass a little more quickly.  I realize this isn’t productive for mom, but it may make mom feel better about having to take some time to clean or work while the kid is involved in self-entertaining some other time of the day.

Remember: I’m not suggesting at any point that you leave the room while your child is playing in the tub.

Is there anything else you could/would add to the list?
