So, here’s the cool thing about After by Anna Todd. She began writing stories on Wattpad as Imaginator1D. Wattpad is a free mobile social reading and writing app that can be used on your phone, tablet or computer. It connects readers and writers socially and is a great inexpensive hobby. Anna began After on Wattpad and gained more than 1 billion reads and over 6 million comments.
After was written on Wattpad as a hobby in between appointments and errands. Every few days, Anna would publish a new chapter to her book and she gained numerous readers. Simon and Schuster is turning the story into a 4 book series. Even more impressive, Paramount pictures has obtained the film rights to make her story into a movie.
Now, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of Wattpad, so I had to do a little research to understand the hype. I’m intrigued at the concept and a bit disappointed that I’m just now being introduced to it. Wattpad is 85% mobile with millions of members and nearly a billion stories to read. You can join Wattpad to read, write, or both. And, the social aspect of Wattpad makes it easy for readers to interact with writers and other readers, discussing the stories they love. Plus, when your favorite author updates a story, you get notifications of that too. I love the idea of reading stories for free!
The story itself is about an ambitious teenager going off to college and leaving a like-minded boyfriend behind as he finishes high school. It appears that she meets a different kind of guy on campus, which intrigues her and leads her into a troubled and unhealthy relationship.

Anna Todd is a military wife of the man she dated for a year in high school and married one month out of high school. Ann is reader, a romantic, and loves boy bands. She believes writing this book was her way of combining her loves and living a dream come true.
