It’s so important for us to remind ourselves that we’re more than just moms!  It took me nearly a year after my daughter was born to realize this fact.

When she was born, I gave her all my attention.  You know … trying to be a good mom.  But, what I didn’t realize right away was that I was neglecting myself and my husband.  I’d lost a sense of who I was and I was alienating my husband in the process.  Because of which, no one was happy.  It seemed so counter-intuitive, but that’s exactly how it worked.

When I finally began devoting time to myself and my marriage, everyone became happier.  I started a mom blog, pursued my passion for cars by getting into Autocross, and really began giving my husband the attention he deserved.  In turn, he became a better partner and father, too.

Still, I felt a bit of a sting being a stay at home mom, not contributing to the household income.  I’d spend years working, making my own money, and had bought a home on my own.  Being a stay at home parent was a challenge in that I was no longer self-sufficient.  So, I began to look for ways to earn even some kind of income.  Sweepstaking was a big hobby and I had a really good year winning stuff, but it didn’t support bills.

I don’t make tons of money blogging, but I probably could.  For me, the little income I receive from part-time blogging is enough to have a little extra money to play with.  I’m pretty happy with this.  If I put in more effort, I’d probably do better.  But, I know plenty of stay at home moms who earn a significant income from blogging.  The reason I love this money making hobby for stay at home moms is because there are multiple streams of income from one source.  Check out 10 Fantastic Reasons to Start a SAHM Blog.

I think of all the Pinterest fails moms deal with trying to create these elaborate birthdays for their kids.  Honestly, if it weren’t for my husband’s adventurous spirit, my kids never would have had cool cakes … I’d just bake a box mix cake and throw on some icing. “Tada!”

But, Pinterest seems to have created this need for perfectly outrageous baked goods and stay at home moms with baking skills can capitalize on this Pinterest-perfection craze.

Carpentry

Love working with your hands and wood?  Build things and sell them, or take custom orders.

Shopping

I had never really thought of shopping as a hobby that could earn money until my uncle told me about his thrift-store shopping habit.  He was notorious for picking up valuable vintage items for cheap in thrift stores.  He’d clean up good items and sell them online for a massive profit.

You can do this for just about anything.  I went through a spurt visiting yard sales to pick up children’s toys for cheap, then clean them up for selling online.  The profits, of course, weren’t as good as selling vintage silver you pick up for fifty cents.  But, a few extra dollars for little work and finding some treasures to keep was worth it.

Also, if you just love shopping, you could offer your services as a personal shopper.
