Sprout Organic Toddler Meals Review

by Ivy B

I typically like to try to feed S whatever we’re having at dinner, but sometimes we make poor decisions for dinner, so I like to have toddler meals on hand.  And, if not overly expensive, I will choose organic options.  Read my review of some of the new Sprout Organic Toddler Meals here.

This year, Sprout launched their line of organic toddler meals and I was lucky enough to get my hands on some to try.  As I said previously, I know I don’t always make the most healthy decisions for the family based on time crunches with a fussy toddler and my own poor eating habits.  And, I know, those poor eating habits shouldn’t be passed off lightly, so I love to feed S pre-made meals with the vegetables I know she’s lacking at times.  And, I love organic options!  These meals claim to have no additives, preservatives, artificial flavors, or added sugars.

Sprout provided me with free products to facilitate this review – there was no compensation and my opinions are completely my own.

You can view the Sprout Organic Toddler Meals lineup here as the following is just a sample of what is offered.  The link will take you to the list of offerings, and you can navigate for nutrition facts and more!

The first box we opened was the Vegetable and Potato Chowder with Chicken. At first, she really seemed to like it, opening her mouth before the spoon was full of food again. But, after a few bites, she was refusing it. I chalked it up to not being hungry and saved the pack for lunch the next day, but not before tasting it myself. It was a nice mix of textures and happily I could taste seasoning in it.
At lunch, we tried again with some success, but she didn’t seem to care much for the chunks of potatoes. If I fed her bites without those chunks, she ate a bit more. I’m stumped though, as she likes potato and typically doesn’t have issues with chunks.  Aside from that, there were plenty of vegetables to eat and that’s typically more difficult for me to get her to eat these days.

Our second box was the Sweet Potato and Apple Risotto with Turkey. We got 3 bites in and refused after. I tasted for myself, and was pleasantly surprised. It tasted like a hearty fall dinner I would personally like and was tempted to finish it off myself.

Next, we tried the Pasta, Zucchini, and Tomato Sauce with Beef. Once again, we got three bites in and S began refusing to eat, though I could tell she liked it. After a couple minutes and refusing more food, I handed her the bowl and spoon and helped her scoop the food in and move it to her mouth. From that point forward, she was feeding herself. Amazingly, she ate nearly half the bowl, including the zucchini (after I just confessed that she rarely eats veggies)!

Finally, we tried the Vegetable & Barley Stew with Chicken.  It was another instant hit (so long as she was feeding herself).  It smelled great and there weren’t any meat bits being spit out!

Once I figured out S’s issue with eating, dinners have become much easier and she thoroughly enjoyed her Sprout organic toddler meals!  It’s been great knowing she’s eating both meat and vegetables without issue and these will be go to meals when our home cooked or delivery options aren’t in her best interest!

My only complaint (and not geared toward Sprout) is that the two grocery stores I frequent weekly don’t stock enough options from the wonderful brand.
