FireTrucks: 911 Rescue Educational iPad App Review

by Ivy B

This post has been sponsored by Thematica.  I was given a promotional code and received sponsorship to review their iPad app, FireTrucks:911 rescue (educational app for kids).  All opinions expressed in this post are my own.  Bear in mind my thoughts on this app are based largely on my 2 year olds experiences with the game.

The features of this game, according to Thematica:
•Stimulates kid’s creativity and problem-solving skills.
•Makes the educational process about firetrucks unusual and interesting.
•Has a colorful graphics and exciting sounds.
•An unusual and interesting way to learn about different vehicles.
•Fun to play again and again.
•Exciting and realistic vehicle sound effects.
In this cute app, your child has 5 Fire Trucks to choose from for game play.  Each truck has its own set of missions.  Each full length mission has several tasks to complete in order to successfully complete the entire mission.  There are picture prompts for each step to help your child complete the missions.
Some of the tasks include:
*shape sorting
*putting things into an object
*moving objects out of the way
*putting out fires
*rescuing mice in a situation
*more.

My daughter’s favorite mission is to pick up the dinosaur.  When she gets him, she doesn’t seem to want to transport him to his location, rather keep him in the wagon and drive away.

For our first try, I had a time figuring out how to make the vehicles move in either direction.  Upon further inspection, I couldn’t find instructions.  If you’re giving this to a small child, I recommend trying this alone first so you can help if he/she experiences any difficulty or frustration.  My two-year-old had a difficult time learning to hold her finger on the truck a few seconds to start it, then holding and dragging it forward or backward to keep it moving.  And, because of her age, she didn’t understand that she was supposed to look at the pictures as the truck drove by to know what tasks to complete.  It meant that I needed to sit with her and explain the process.  Once I explained what to do, she understood and would complete the tasks again and again without assistance.

If you’re looking for a good app to help your child learn logical and critical thinking skills, this is a good one.  It will also help your child to understand rescue situations without boring them with talk … they’ll be experiencing it for themselves in this adorable app.
Additionally, the in-app section for parents includes the information that the app isn’t linked to social media sites and doesn’t include inappropriate marketing because they support The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
My overall impression of FireTrucks:911 rescue is good.  It may be a bit advanced for my two-year-old in some aspects.  That only means this is a great app to allow us to play together for more bonding time.
